I remember that play too. I think it was against the Redskins. McMahon stumbled, but he caught the ball in his fingerstips. Payton could do everything – run, block, catch, and pass!

Walter Payton threw a TD to Jim McMahon against the Washington Redskins, which ended 45-10 (another Bears victory).
As for the frequency of that occurring over the course of the NFL, I cannot recall any other time that has happened. However, I could see LaDainian Tomlinson (who was inspired by Walter Payton to play football) throwing one to Philip Rivers next season.
